UNVEILED.

EMPOWERING CREATIVITY THROUGH ADVERSITY

PART 1, VOLUME 1

ABOUT

Unveiled is a Digital Editorial that consists of creative work put together by individuals from communities and countries facing displacement, genocide, oppression and war.

The true reflections of the history and culture that exists amongst these communities and countries is overlooked due to the West’s ignorance towards this in the media.

We’re here to change that.

This editorial will be released in three parts with three volumes to each. The parts will cover art, poetry, fashion, food, music and film, with two communities featured per volume.

PART I

CANVAS & VERSE.

Canvas & Verse, Volume 01 is a representation of creative work displayed through paintings, drawings, essays and poetry.

Volume 01 will first focus on the diaspora and artists from Congo and Sudan

CONGO

Congo has been a focal point of significantly tragic events throughout the 500-year journey of Africans both within their homeland and across the globe. Until the mid 1800s, nearly half of all Africans trafficked to the Americas originated from the Kongo region. History seems to echo itself in the world today as we witness a devastating humanitarian crisis.

The relentless exploitation of Congo’s rich mineral resources, including colton, gold, tin and others, has led to the loss of nearly six million Congolese lives, marking it as one of the deadliest conflicts since World War II. We, as a society have often turned a blind eye to this, largely due to the limited and biased portrayal by Western media.

It is incumbent upon us now to highlight the resilience and creativity of the diaspora and individuals within these communities, fostering greater awareness and understanding of how we can contribute to their betterment.

SUDAN

The Sudan crisis involves violent clashes which has displaced thousands, including asylum seekers and refugees. The conflict in Sudan stems from political instability, economic woes, and ethnic tensions.

The situation exacerbates humanitarian concerns, with civilians, especially children enduring violence, displacement, and limited access to basic needs. International organisations are aiding those affected, but challenges persist in delivering aid effectively amidst ongoing violence and instability. International organisations are aiding those affected, but challenges persist in delivering aid effectively amidst ongoing violence and instability. As of now, Sudan has the highest number of internally displaced people.

The crisis underscores the need for sustained efforts to address root causes and facilitate peaceful resolution, ensuring the well-being and safety of Sudanese civilians and refugees. It is up to us now to highlight the resilience and creativity of the diaspora and individuals within these communities, fostering greater awareness and understanding of how we can contribute to their betterment.
